Dr Schaible received a BS in Biology from Trinity College, Hartford, CT (1972)
and a PhD in Physiology from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ (1976).
His postdoctoral research was conducted at Albert Einstein College of
Medicine, Bronx, NY and was an Assistant Professor of Medicine and
Physiology there from 1980-1984. During that tenure, his research interests
were in cardiac physiology and biochemistry and he received several grants
from the National Institutes of Health to support this work and career
development.
Dr Schaible joined Berlex Laboratories in 1984 in the clinical research group and worked on the successful development of gadolinium DTPA as the first MRI contrast agent. He then joined Centocor in 1987, overseeing clinical development of several monoclonal antibody programs. These efforts helped lead to the approval of Reopro and Remicade, important new therapeutic agents based on monoclonal antibody technology. He led the clinical development program for Remicade and presented the clinical trial results in Crohn's disease to both the FDA and CPMP advisory committees, resulting in the registration of Remicade in this indication in both the United States and Europe. Dr Schaible is now Senior Director, Immunology Medical Affairs which oversees Phase IV development and marketing support.
