Group Leader in Combinatorial Medicinal Chemistry managing a team of chemists involved in novel enzyme targets in the Cardiovascular area.
Research Project Leader for a multi-disciplinary team in R&D aimed at developing novel drugs for Respiratory Diseases (1995-Present).
Past Positions
Wellcome Foundation, Beckenham, Kent
Senior Research Scientist co-ordinating work of approximately 20 chemists in the Cardiovascular and Respiratory areas. Led to developing candiates for asthma and atherosclorosis (1990-95).
Section Head line managing approximately 15 chemists in the Cancer and Viral areas. Initiated the first Cancer programme at Beckenham leading to the development of compound with the Cancer Research Campaign. Also developed first non-nucleoside anti-HIV agents (1988-90).
Medicinal chemist initially working in neurotransmission targets in Parasite Chemotherapy, then working on new cancer leads (1981-87).
Education
Post-doctoral research with Professor Steve Ley involving synthesis of beta-lactams Thienamycin, Nocardicins via Iron Carbonyl Chemistry.
