Step 1: Minimum Required Equipment
Be sure that your system meets the following list of technical requirements:
- Computer and operating system: PC, PC-compatible, Mac OS® or Unix: HP-UX®, Solaris®, IRIX®, AIX®
or other that runs Netscape or Microsoft Internet Explorer
- Computer processing unit (CPU): preferably Pentium or Mac Power PC
- 16-bit sound card and speakers
- Minimum of 16 MB of RAM
- Internet connection: minimum 28.8 Kbps modem or better, T1 or ISDN
- Java and JavaScript enabled on your web browser
- RealAudio Media Player: RealPlayer 7 or higher (see Step Two to install)
Step 2: RealAudio Installation and Testing
If you do not already have RealPlayer 7 (or higher) installed in your computer, read the following guidelines then click on the icon below to download the most current version (RealPlayer 8 Basic) for free.
At the top of the www.real.com home page, find "Download" and click on "RealPlayer." At appoximately the middle of the Player page, you will find the free version of the RealAudio media player, RealPlayer 8 Basic, or you may purchase the enhanced version, RealPlayer 8 Plus. Click on the version you prefer and follow the instructions (outlined below) for downloading RealAudio Media Player.
Be sure you have reviewed the equipment checklist in Step One for the minimum technical requirements, or follow the checklist provided by RealNetworks for downloading the enhanced version RealPlayer 8 Plus.
- Complete the online RealAudio form (name, e-mail, country, operating system, language, and connection speed, etc).
- Select the download option: complete, standard (recommended) or minimum.
- Download (save) the file. When prompted "Save to disk," select the default file name and location provided or specify a file name and location on your hard drive where you want the RealAudio installation program to be saved (e.g., C:\\WebcastAudio).
- Run the file. Close and restart your browser to initialize and load the RealAudio player. Find and launch the file by exploring your hard drive or choosing the Run option in the Start menu. The RealAudio player will install automatically.
- After you have completed the installation process, click on the Test icon below to check that you have installed the RealAudio media player correctly.
