What will I see and hear? How does it work? |
Desktop attendees throughout the globe will be able to hear each presenter's voice in direct synchronization with the complete visual presentation, including slides, video, graphics and photographs from the symposium venue. The Webcast is absolutely free on the Internet and open to the entire international medical community. |
Once your system is ready, go to the WEBCAST PROGRAM page and click on the audio icon to access the synchronized audio and slide presentations.
All software requirements can be downloaded free, including Web browsers and Real Player®. You must download the RealPlayer G2 to listen to the Webcast and view the video segments.
Do I need any special hardware or software to view and listen to the Webcast? |
Almost any computer configured to connect to the World Wide Web should allow you to view the Webcast. Speakers and a 16-bit sound card are required to reproduce the audio portion of the Webcast. Your computer should have a color monitor with VGA (Video Graphic Adapter) able to display a minimum of 32K (32,768 high color) with a resolution of 640 x 480 or higher. |
Insofar as the software requirements are concerned, you will need a Web browser (Netscape® Navigator v. 3.x or higher; Microsoft® Internet Explorer v. 3.x or higher) and the RealAudio® player audio software. These can be downloaded free at:
| |
Netscape Navigator/Communicator® |
| |
Microsoft Internet Explorer® |
| |
RealAudio® |
| |
What are the minimum system requirements? |
Computer and operating system:
PC, PC-compatible, Mac OS® or Unix:
HP-UX®, Solaris®, IRIX®, AIX® and other machines which run with
Netscape® or MS Internet Explorer® |
Equipped with 16-bit sound card and speakers |
Minimum 16 MB of RAM |

| |
Which RealAudio® player should I download? |
Make sure to download the RealPlayer G2. The G2 player is only available for 32-bit windows (95, 98, NT) and it is the only version which will enable you to listen to the Webcast. |
| |
How can I test the RealPlayer G2? |
Go to www.prous.com/esctakeda99 and view an online Webcast. If you installed the RealAudio player correctly, you should be able to view the Webcast with audio enhancement. |
| |
What if I can’t hear the presentations? |
Check your equipment for minimum 16-bit sound card and speakers |
Make sure your speakers are plugged in and turned on |
Adjust volume control |
Test that you downloaded and installed the RealAudio® player properly |

What does it mean when the player is rebuffering? |
Streaming technology is used to deliver the audio of the presentations to your computer. Instead of sending one large audio file, it is sent in small segments to you by the servers. Thus, if the player loses its connection to the server for any reason, it needs to rebuffer the signal of the audio. Network congestion ("a busy signal") is the usual culprit. |
What if the image quality is poor (photographs, slides, graphics)? |
Your color monitor with VGA (Video Graphic Adapter) must be able to display 32K (32,768 high color) with a minimum resolution of 640x480 or higher. Check the settings on your computer. |
What if I lose the connection or the screen is locked during the Webcast? |
Try using the Reload or Refresh option on your browser's navigation bar. If this doesn't work, try closing your browser and reconnecting to the Webcast. |
What is a firewall? How will this stop me from viewing the Webcast? |
A firewall prevents unauthorized access to a network (e.g., your hospital's computer system). A firewall ensures that all communication and exchange between an organization's network and the Internet are secure. Depending on how your company/institution has configured its firewall, any of the following problems could occur: |
 JAVA could be disabled |
 JavaScript could be disabled |
 RealAudio could be blocked |
If any of these elements are disabled you will not be able to view the Webcast.
Contact your system or network administrator to make sure your network can accept RealAudio packets (audio streaming).
