The Society for Medicines Research (SMR) was formally inaugurated as the Society for Drug Research in 1966 with the stated object of providing opportunities for those involved in drug research; the emphasis was for an open, informal and multidisciplinary forum to discuss drug research. However, the Society is concerned with all sciences relevant to the discovery and development of new medicines and not simply the drug entity. Over the years, the Society has gained an excellent reputation for the quality of meetings that it organises. It continues to maintain this quality as a primary objective. Our normal format is three or four one-day Symposia each year. These are well recognised for their exceptional value for money as well as their quality. Since 1999, Prous Science has broadcast these meetings via the web. Once every two years, we organise an SMR Award for Drug Discovery. Occasionally, we hold a social event (conversazione) for members and their families. Members also receive a quarterly Newsletter. Membership is open to any person interested in furthering the aims and objectives of the Society. The Society is managed by a Committee elected by the members and subscription rates, registration fees, etc. are reviewed regularly and kept as low as possible consistent with financial viability. The Society is a registered charity, so annual subscriptions are recognised by the Inland Revenue for conditional tax relief. Subscriptions are £25 per annum for full members and £10 per annum for students in full-time education. Registration fees are also reduced for student members. If you would like to join, please complete our online Membership Application Form. Student applicants should mail a letter from their Head of Department confirming their student status. |
